Sweet Disposition

I have a really big sweet tooth! Chococolate, cakes, sweets, I love it all. It's a pretty typical girl thing and it seems no-one knows that better than Accessorize. I know I'm a bit late to the party since they started making cosmetics a few months back, but I'm so glad I discovered them eventually. I'm especially taken wih this cute Cupcake Shop lip balm set. It contains three luscious lip balms (Strawberry, Vanilla and Mint Chocolate Chip) in cute cupcake shaped packaging. They leave my lips wonderfully moisturised and smell good enough to eat. Heavenly!

Special mentions also go to their Merged Eyeshadow in Moondust (pictured below). It's great for making my eyes look bright and wide awake, even first thing in the morning when I'm feeling anything but.

(Images from Accessorize since my camera charger is AWOL)

P.s. A big "Hello" and "Thank you" to my new commenters and followers!

Dot-To-Dot

Shirt, bag& leggings: Miss Selfridge  Shorts: Oasis  Boots: Topshop

Firstly, apologies for the bad (and slightly bizarre) lighting in these pictures, after what seemed like a lifetime of brightness/ contrast adjusting I had to accept this was the best they were going to get. Winter and photo taking definitely aren't compatible, so there's yet another reason to look forward to summer. (As if there weren't enough already!)

Anyway, polka dots have taken over from Breton stripes as my print of the moment, which you can probably tell from my choice of blog background. This shirt has quickly become my go-to piece, it's both comfortable AND stylish, which is a winning combination in my opinion. I've teamed it with my green Miss Selfridge satchel on this occasion, I love using colourful accessories to brighten up an outfit and this bag ticks all the right boxes.

Polka dots are still on trend, much to my delight, and they come in all colours and sizes, so even if you're a bit print shy, there's bound to be a piece out there that appeals to you. I've included a selection of my favourite dots and spots available on the Great British high street right now, enjoy!

Turn It Up: Blasts From The Past

Since my blog has mostly been fashion-oriented over the past few days, I thought it was time I threw a bit of music in there to spice things up a bit. I'm in a bit of nostalgic mood after visiting my old uni campus earlier today, so my song selection is made up of tracks from the past few years. Some more recent than others. You can watch my number one video below as well.

  1. Kasabian- Fire This is one of my favourite songs of theirs. It's mind blowing live as well.
  2. White Lies- To Lose My Life “Lets grow old together, and die at the same time.” Morbid or romantic? You decide.
  3. Lady Gaga- Alejandro Reminds me of my holiday to Turkey in 2010. Lying by the pool with a cocktail, good times.
  4. Hard-Fi- Tied Up Too Tight I've been a fan of these guys from the beginning. I challenge you not to sing along.
  5. Beyoncé - Sweet Dreams. Pop Perfection. Who run the world? She does.
  6. Sunshine Underground- Put You In Your Place. Leeds' finest unsung talents. This is catchy as hell.
  7. Calvin Harris- Acceptable in the 80's. He's got hugs for you if you were born in the 80s, apparently. I'm holding him to that!
  8. Muse- Knights of Cydonia. Picking just one of their songs was hard, but in the end it had to be this epic number.
  9. Rihanna- Disturbia. Over three years later and I'm still not bored of this.
  10. Vampire Weekend- A Punk. I've spent many a night at the O2 Academy dancing my socks off to this.

Girl Crush: Mila Kunis

Some of my favourite Mila fashion moments.

Now, I've never really been one for celebrity style. I seem to get most of my inspiration from street style and other fashion blogs, but every so often I make an exception and that's where this girl comes in.

The lovely Mila Kunis has been on my radar for quite some time now and it seems she can do no wrong when it comes to fashion. Whether she's wowing us with a show stopping dress on the red carpet or she's rocking an off-duty chic look, she nails it every time.

And her work shouldn't go unmentioned either. She's a fantastic, versatile actress proving she can do serious, dramatic acting (Black Swan) as well as comedy (Friends With Benefits, Forgetting Sarah Marshall). I can't wait to see what she'll do (and wear) next.

Cold As Ice

Jumper: Miss Selfridge   Vest (Underneath): Topshop   Jeans: Warehouse   Boots: River Island

This is a bit of belated outfit post since I took it last Saturday, but thanks to an unexpectedly busy week it's going to have to be better late than never.
I'd never tried this combination before, but I quite like the dark green jeans and the yellowy/ orange jumper combination. I think it gave a very autumnal feel to what has to have been the coldest winter day I've experienced in a while. I've been in love with this jumper since I bought it, I really like the colour and it's still nice and cosy despite being slightly cropped. Wearing jumpers is probably the obly thing I enjoy about winter.

I'm hoping to post regularly next week, so keep your eyes well and truly peeled!

Purple Haze

Barry M Limited Edition Foil Effects Nail Paint in Lilac Foil.

It's no big secret that Barry M nail paints are amazing. I've been a big fan of them for a few years now, they're great quality, long lasting and no-one does colours like them, so when I saw this limited addition beauty in the cosmetics aisle I just had to have it!
I'm always excited to try out a new nail varnish and this lilac lovely is a welcome addition to my ever-growing collection. The colour is gorgeous and it creates the perfect iridescent, pearly sheen when it catches the light, something tells me I'll be getting a lot of use out of this one.

As I said though, this very special nail polish is available for a limited time only so snap it up while you still have the chance!

Available at selected Boots and Superdrug branches Nationwide.

Electric Blue

Skirt: Miss Selfridge  Jacket: Primark  Vest: H&M  Boots: River Island

I know, I'm not the most natural of posers, but lets not dwell on that too much! I've always enjoyed reading other people's 'what I wore today' style posts,so I thought I'd give it a bash myself.
I bought this lovely blue midi skirt with some money I was lucky enough to get for Christmas. I've had my eye on it for quite some time and it definitely fits in with my 'getting out of my comfort zone' aim as I really don't own anything else like it. To say that I've got a lot of love for it is an understatement. It's a gorgeous electric blue colour and the material hangs beautifully. Plus it's oh-so versatile, I can wear it now with my trusty leather jacket and chelsea boots, but I'm really looking forward to wearing it in the summer with some sandals and a vest for a really relaxed vibe. This skirt will be a very hard-working addition to my wardrobe and it has me longing for the summer months even more than I did before (and that was a lot, by the way).

Ones To Watch (Literally) Part 1

Super heroes, action, gross out comedy, terrifying horrors and good looking men. That's what my cinema-going experience is going to involve this year and I can't wait! Here's a selection of the films that have made my 2012 'Must See' list:

The Dark Knight Rises
I think it's safe to assume this is at the top of everyone's to-watch list in the coming year. Personally, I've been eagerly anticipating it since The Dark Knight left my nerves in shreds with its epic brilliance in 2009; I'm not alone, so the final part of Christopher Nolan's trilogy has some big shoes to fill.
As expected, some of the familiar faces we've grown to love will be returning including Morgan Freeman, Gary Oldman and Michael Caine, not forgetting the man himself, Christian Bale, returning for the final time as Batman. (Will he have toned down his Barry White-esque Batman voice? We can only hope). In addition to this we'll be welcoming some new ones: Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Marion Cotillard will be making appearances along with Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle and the one everyone's been talking about Tom Hardy as the villain of the piece, Bane. From what I've seen so far he's hit the nail on the head, cutting a menacing figure to rival the scariest of them.
As Christopher Nolan has shown time and time again, big screen blockbusters are his forte, the Batman legacy is safe in his hands.
Released July 2012

The Place Beyond The Pines
Oh, no big deal, just a film starring my two favourite unobtainable men, Ryan Gosling AND Bradley Cooper! (That said, the 'Draco Malfoy' hair that Mr Gosling is sporting here doesn't really do it for me, but I digress.) The storyline centres around Ryan's character, Luke, a motorcycle rider to considers turning to violent crime and robberies in order to support his wife and newborn son. However, it all starts to go a bit pear-shaped after and encounter with a policeman turned politician (played by Cooper). The film also stars lucky ladies Eva Mendes and Rose Byrne who have the enviable jobs of playing their respective partners. All in all, this film looks set to be a tense, action packed political thriller.
Release date to be confirmed.

Ones To Watch Part 2

Part two of my must-watch films this year.

The Avengers
My inner superhero nerd is incredibly excited about this one, I can't even hide it! In this super sized blockbuster, a team of super humans are bought together by the mysterious S.H.I.E.L.D agency to save the earth from being completely destroyed by aliens (no pressure there then!)
This gives us the chance to welcome back some well-loved, familiar faces including Iron Man (Robert Downey Jnr.), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Captain America (Chris Evans) and Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson).
This is Marvel Comics' piece de resistance and if it lives up to expectations, they could have the ultimate success on their hands.
Released April 17th 2012

American Reunion
This has the potential to be either atrocious or brilliant, I'm hoping for the latter but only time will tell if I get my wish.
It's films like this that make me feel old: has it really been that long since the original trilogy came out? It can't be, I remember the release of the first one like it was yesterday! Surely they can't be due a reunion, can they? Oh, they can. It's been a decade. Oh heck.
The pioneers of gross out comedy are back for another shot and a lot seems to have changed over the last few years (and I'm not just referring to Kevin's questionable choice in facial hair). Though I doubt they've grown up one little bit.
But of course the important thing is, Jim's dad will be back! Here's hoping he's on form.
Released August 2012

The Woman In Black
Well, someone doesn't want to be typecast do they? And who can blame him? After starring as Harry Potter in the well-loved franchise for the best part of ten years, I suppose it's only natural for Daniel Radcliffe to want to try something new. As departures go, this is about as extreme as it gets.
Radcliffe is playing a young lawyer who has been tasked with travelling to a remote village to sort through a deceased clients papers. But, in true horror film style, there ends up being a bit more to it than that. While working alone in the clients house, he glimpses a woman dressed only in black. When questioning the locals, he is met with silence so has to uncover the intentions of this mysterious figure on his own. I'm not a betting kind of girl, but I reckon it won't be anything good.
This looks utterly chilling and is a must see for lovers of the genre.
Released February 10th 2012

New Year, New Wishlist

NewYearWishlist
1&2. Topshop, 3. Miss Selfridge,  4. Warehouse, 5. Dorothy Perkins, 6. Oasis.

I only have one style aim for 2012 (we'll call it an aim, not a resolution, I'm terrible at keeping resolutions!) It's to step out of my comfort zone a bit more, without making a complete departure from my signature style. Here's a selection of the fabulous clothes and accessories I'm currently coveting.

1. This little beauty is the first example of me sticking to what I know. I love the flattering paper bag waist which helps to create the curves that I'm somewhat lacking, plus the golden yellow colour is gorgeous. Not to mention that it could easily be dressed up or down.
2.  As I type this, my wardrobe contains absolutely no pairs of trousers. None! But over the past few days I've fallen in love with these polka dotted beauties and think they'd be the perfect place to start. After umming and ahhing and questioning whether I'd be brave enough to wear them, I've decided I have to take the plunge.
3. I like this maxi skirt because of it's unusual print and floaty material. It would also help me to branch out into different types of skirts. My trusted minis have served me well, but I think it's time to explore other styles.
4. The lace on this jumper adds a girly twist to an otherwise basic wardrobe staple. It would be perfect for getting me through these last few chilly months before spring and summer (hopefully) make an appearance.
5. I'm a complete ankle boot fiend. A staple that would go with pretty much everything I already own. These are flattering, leg lengthening and would be a welcome addition to my shoe collection.
6.  I've been itching to try this style of hat since last summer and I'm determined for this year to be the year.Eye-catching and flattering to any face shape, it could add an interesting edge to an otherwise plain outfit.

Hello World

I'll try and keep this brief. I'm going to be typing at great length in all the posts that follow this one after all. This blog is going to be my space to bang on about all the stuff I'm passionate about. Fashion, music, films, TV, anything goes really, which I suppose is the whole beauty of it. With any luck there might be a few of you out there who enjoy reading it as much as I enjoy writing it.

So here we go then, welcome to my blog!
